GPAA Project to renovate existing displaced camps

Project Summary

In light of the ongoing brutal war on our people in Gaza for fifteen consecutive months and the fact that many of our people are living in displacement camps, the Palestinian American Gaza Association has taken the initiative to restore the tents of the displaced people whose tents have become worn out and uninhabitable due to the difficult climatic conditions and the inability of the people to do so.

Impact and Results

Renovating tents in the displaced people camps offers numerous significant benefits for the displaced populations residing within them:

  • Enhanced Safety: Stronger structures and better waterproofing can significantly improve safety, protecting residents from wind, rain, and potential collapses.
  • Improved Hygiene: Renovations help reduce exposure to mud and dampness, which can contribute to the spread of disease.
  • Increased Privacy: Partitions and improved layouts can create more private spaces within tents, fostering a greater sense of dignity and personal space.
  • Improved Mental Health: Living in more comfortable and secure conditions can significantly improve the mental and emotional well-being of refugees.
  • Fostering Community: Renovations can encourage social interaction and a stronger sense of community within the camp.
  • Empowerment: Involving displaced people in the renovation process gives them a sense of ownership and control over their living environment.
  • Reduced Disease Risk: Better hygiene and living conditions can significantly reduce the risk of disease outbreaks within the camp.
  • Improved Overall Health: More comfortable and secure living conditions can contribute to improved overall health and well-being for refugees.
  • Better Preparedness: Renovations can help make tents more resilient to natural disasters and other emergencies and help our people in their steadfastness.
